Dr. Millicent M. Grim
Consultant Ophthalmologist & LASIK Specialist
Dr. Millicent graduated in Medicine and Ophthalmology from the Medical School of the University of Pretoria in South Africa, and has a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. She was associate head of the Department of Ophthalmology at The Pretoria Academic Hospitals and did numerous rural eye tours providing cataract and other surgical care in underserved regions.

After graduating from the faculty of Medicine Damascus university, Dr Rana started her ophthalmology training in 1993 . She received her Master’s Degree and postgraduate studies in ophthalmology and eye surgeries to be followed by a training course in American university of BEIRUT, Lebanon in 1997 then started working as Ophthalmologist in BEIRUT for 6 years before moving to Dubai in 2003 .
Juliana Van Niekerk

We would like to introduce our newest member of the Gulf Family Clinic Team. Juliana van Niekerk joins us with a wealth of knowledge and experience spanning a 17 year optometric career. She graduated from the first and renowned Optometry school in South Africa. From there she explored different optometry environments before settling at the high end luxury practice located on the High Street of Melrose Arch, the premier shopping destination in Johannesburg.

Does your child not seem to be enjoying reading? Do they get easily get frustrated? Do they skip words or even a whole line when they read?
Please don’t assume that they
- are lazy
- hate reading
- Are “bad” at reading
- They have learning difficulties like dislexia or ADHD
Do start with a very thorough eye check up. A check up that should include not only how clear their vision is like but also have an optometrist check the function of the eye muscles.
The eye check up my daughter did was very thorough, it took 2 hours and gave us all answers I was looking for. Some eye muscles were not working properly and others had to overwork so after sometime of reading she would skip words or lines because the overworking muscles could not cope. The way to think about the eye muscles is like any other muscle in the body that when you overwork it, it starts to tremble and give up eventually.
My daughter did need glasses to help her but was also prescribed some simple eye exercises that helped her a lot!
1 year later now and her reading has improved so much and she is now confident enough to be reading by herself books and books 🙂
I am not sure I am allowed to mention the clinic we went to and the doctors we saw.
I can highly recommend the team at Gulf Family Clinic as they were very thorough. Dr. Millicent and Dr. Chene were very helpful.

We have had an Ortho -K treatment for my 10 yo girl and very happy with the results and approach by the team. Our doctor Chene was very gentle and knowledgeable, always could easily refer to some new research in her specialisation, answered all my concerns. You could not be in better hands)

Located on 19th floor (great view.. That s good for an eye clinic 😉) This place is one of the oldest eyes center in Dubai. Although it's been here for years, it is very modern, Very spacious, very well-equipped with latest technology. All eye exams can be done within their premises.
Polite and caring staff
Dr are highly qualified and take time to clearly explain what they are doing and why. At the end, you ll get a very accurate picture of your eye condition. As the Dr will provide you his diagnosis, he ll highlight all available options and provide an enlighted forecast on your eye's condition evolution
A full session length is around 2 to 3 hours, so better plan it ahead and be on time 😁
It includes optometric, various eye scans and thorough consultation with a specialized ophthalmologist.
Furthermore, they are offering a very reasonable price. It only costed us 1k AED for all this high quality service.
We can only highly recommend Gulf Eye Center.. They are really the best (as you will find when go ogling them) . You can really go there eyes closed 😉
