Quality Ophthalmology

Multiple ophthalmic disorders can present in neonates. Such disorders can be isolated or be associated with other systemic anomalies, preventing optimal visual development.

The critical period of visual development is in the first 6 months after birth. Infants who meet screening criteria for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) should be screened to help prevent serious visual sequelae, including blindness, and neonatologists should identify ocular abnormalities.
